Composer & Filmmaker
Jan Flessel (born 1982 in Halle/Saale, Germany) is a Composer & Filmmaker based in Copenhagen, Denmark. His works range from orchestral and chamber music, with and without electronics, to electronic music as well as music and sound design for computer games.
He studied Composition with Peter Manfred Wolf, Georg Friedrich Haas and Simon Steen-Andersen in Rostock, Basel and Aarhus. He also studied Game Design in Copenhagen.
As a filmmaker, Jan specializes in documentaries, artist portraits, and music videos, along with videography tailored for social media. He has collaborated with a variety of artists and ensembles, such as Julian Rachlin, Mathilde Falch, The Philharmonic Brass, Scandinavian Cello School, NOVO Quartet, and Fiolministeriet.
His Compositions have been performed, among others at: International Summer Course for New Music Darmstadt, ECCO Concert @Espace Senghor Brussel, New Music Miami, Jazzhus Montmartre, Stockholm Chamber Brass Academy, Orchester-Academy Halberstadt, “Brücken”- Festival for New Music Rostock, Young Nordic Music Festival Reykjavik, Panorama Festival Aarhus, Nonclassical @Limewharf London, Music-Academy Basel.
In collaboration with SCS Consultancy, Jan plays a key role in producing “The Musical Farm,” an online series that offers a behind-the-scenes look at the Scandinavian Cello School. Additionally, they work together on “Sound of the Future,” a series highlighting emerging young classical musicians.
